Instagram launches new “Twitter Killer” Threads app

On 5th July, Instagram, the popular social media platform, introduced Threads, a new app that aims to outrival Twitter. “Welcome to Threads! Let’s make this happen,” exclaimed Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta and the founder of Facebook, in his inaugural post on the latest platform.

The Launch of Threads “Initial Version”:

Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, introduced Threads as an “initial version” with more features planned, such as cross-app interaction with platforms like Mastodon. The company aimed to expand Instagram’s capabilities to include text messaging and described Threads as a means of achieving that vision.

Although Threads operates as a separate app, users log in using their Instagram account, and they can customize their profile directly for Threads while their Instagram username carries over. According to Meta, users have the option of following the same accounts they do on Instagram. In addition, the app’s settings allow users to be private on Instagram but public on Threads.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Tweet:

After an absence of 11 years, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, made a triumphant return to Twitter to announce the launch of Threads, Meta’s new text-based social media platform and a direct competitor to Twitter.

In a playful move, Zuckerberg’s tweet featured a meme depicting Spiderman pointing at Spiderman, seemingly taunting Twitter and its owner, Elon Musk. Within just three hours, the post garnered an impressive five million views and over 44,000 ‘likes.’

Initial Feedback and Response:

Threads’ debut arrives as Twitter implements restrictions on user activity, such as restricting the number of daily tweets users can read. Zuckerberg portrays Threads as an open and welcoming public space for conversation, which stands in sharp contrast with Twitter’s constraints.

Since Instagram launched the Threads app, users have started sharing their initial impressions and experiences of the new platform. Within the first few glances, users appreciated the app for smooth performance, and a clean UI/UX.

Nonetheless, others have suggested areas for improvement, among these: the absence of chronological timelines, limited search and discover functionalities, and the inability to create group chats or direct messages within the app itself.

Conclusion:

The introduction of Instagram’s Threads marks a significant milestone in the realm of social media. It is essential to acknowledge that Threads is currently in its beta phase, allowing for ongoing improvements and updates based on user input. As individuals delve into the app and interact with it, their experiences and suggestions will play a pivotal role in shaping the future development and evolution of Threads.

In a landscape where social media platforms are in a constant state of flux, Threads emerges as a fresh contender, providing a unique approach to online conversations. With an increasing number of users embracing the app and sharing their feedback, the Instagram development team will have valuable insights to consider for future enhancements and refinements.
